The Snow Man Trek

Trekking

Rigorous

4 nights in hotels & 23 nights in camp

Lunana is the most remote region in Bhutan, lying at over 4000 meters (13,000 feet). This desolate and spectacular landscape lies to the east of Laya, at the foot of immense snow peaks soaring to over 7000 meters. Its few inhabitants are farmer-herders, and are notorious for their difficult nature. If you are there, it means that you will be many days journey from anywhere more significant than a small village.

This trek is easily the most difficult in Bhutan, and is considered to be one of the toughest in the world. It comprises the greater part of the already challenging Laya Trek (see option) before heading off towards Lunana. This diversion adds an additional two weeks and involves the crossing of a further seven passes. In total you will cross five passes over 5000 meters (16500 feet). Fewer than 50 trekkers each year journey through this inaccessible corner of northern Bhutan.

To consider undertaking this trip you need to possess both excellent health and an unwavering sense of adventure. The rewards however are exceptional. Few will ever know how it feels to be so removed from everyday life, faced with an almost continual series of obstacles as one travels through some of the most breathtaking environment one could ever encounter.
